5 Tips for Buying Cannabis in Colorado

5 Tips For Buying Cannabis In Colorado

Cannabis is fairly easy to purchase in Colorado, for residents and visitors. It’s both recreationally legal and medicinally. If you’re not a resident and find yourself planning a trip there, you may want to take start on a couple of these steps long before you get there, so you can use your time wisely. There are a few things you’ll have to do, so let’s get you started.

Tip 1: Know your laws!

Whether you’re a resident or visitor, you’ll have laws to follow for purchasing and using cannabis, in the state of Colorado. There are some that are a bit different depending on if you live there or are just visiting. One of those laws states that the amount you can purchases changes based on your residency.

Tip 2: Find a dispensary

Contrary to what some may think, dispensaries are not always easily located. You’ll find beautiful scenery, plenty of places to shop but dispensaries aren’t scattered among your typical malls and stores. Websites such as CannaBiz make it fairly simple to find a dispensary near you, as well as being able to check out local products.

Tip 3: Shop away

Once you find the dispensary of your choice, head on over to explore and make your purchase. Be sure you have a state issued driver’s license or I.D. because it is required to get in. Once you get there, you can browse if you’d like, which sometimes is best, just in case some of their products aren’t listed online. You can ask your budtender questions, check out their latest items, and find sales. It will help if you already have an idea of what you’d like to purchase too. Be prepared to use cash. Currently, pot shops in the state of Colorado do not accept credit cards.\

Tip 4: No public usage

Regardless of smoking marijuana or having edibles, you can not partake out in public. You could say that this tip could go along with the first tip of knowing your laws but we felt it needed it’s own tip specifically because smoking marijuana has the potential to become a social event. Smoking on patios, balconies and private yards does not cross the lines as far as the laws go, so that’s perfectly legal. \

Tip 5: Keep it in Colorado

Another tip that could be under the tip about knowing your laws but can be construed as rather urgent in nature. Be very aware that as a resident leaving the state or a visiting leaving and heading back home, it is illegal to cross state lines with marijuana. You will be breaking both state AND federal laws, which in turn makes for not so pleasant fines and/or jail time. If you find that when you are leaving Colorado and you still have any amount of marijuana left from your purchase, it is perfectly acceptable to gift it to a resident, provided they are age 21 or older.

*BONUS TIP* : Outside the box

It’s always fun to try new things. If you normally smoke marijuana, try an edible. There are so many different products and unless you try them all, you’ll never really know what you like or don’t. Maybe you could make your regular purchase with whatever you are used to buying, and add one item that you haven’t tried yet. You may find something you’d rather not live without.
